Accessibility

When we created Proctorio, we committed ourselves to expanding and protecting high-quality education for test takers with varying abilities. We are consistently improving our product by creating new partnerships, complying with industry standards, and developing exam settings that are completely customizable by the exam administrator.

When choosing your remote proctoring provider, you need to decipher which platform not only complies with your standards, but is also equipped to assist and better the test-taking experience for your test-takers.

Our accessibility standards compliance

Proctorio currently complies with the following standards:

  • WCAG 2.1 AA standards of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)

  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act

  • EN 301 549 Accessibility requirements suitable for public procurement of ICT products and services in Europe

Assistive technology compatibility

Proctorio is compatible with the following:

  • VoiceOver (as a macOS native text to speech reader)

  • Kurzweil3000/Read the Web (as a Chrome or an Edge browser extension)

  • ChromeVox/Screen Reader (as a Chrome browser extension)

  • JAWS

  • NVDA

Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs)

Proctorio has worked with external auditor Deque Systems since 2019 to create annual VPATs. These documents affirm Proctorio's compliance with the Revised Section 508 Standards of the Rehabilitation Act. Each year, Proctorio's VPATs confirm our software's continued accessibility for people experiencing physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities.

Several browser windows around a monitor show sound control icons, enlarging text, an eye graphic rendered with different color shades, and an ear carefully listening.

Encouraging accommodations and empathy

At Proctorio, we encourage all of our exam administrators to speak with their test takers before the exam to intentionally build an exam environment that suits each test taker’s unique needs.

Our customizable settings allow exam administrators to meet accommodation requests made by their test takers on a per-user basis.

In addition, users can enable High-Visibility Mode during the pre-checks before the start of the exam.
