ACCESSIBILITY
Melissa DeWees September 14, 2023
When it comes to taking an exam, timing is everything. The last thing you want is to waste precious minutes trying to get in. Let's talk about how long it should really take.
First, let's look at some statistics. Based on 3,796 recent chat transcripts, the average time for test-takers (who engaged with chat support) to get into their exam was 67.17 seconds–that’s basically 1 minute and includes time spent on the various required hardware checks and verifications. Most test-takers don’t need to initiate support chats and are able to start their exams without issue.
The “Before You Begin” page often includes details about what will be recorded, what to expect, and how to access support during the exam. From there, you will go through what’s called a “System Diagnostics Test,” which checks that your device has a functioning webcam, microphone, and connection before entering. Sometimes, Proctorio will even warn you if you have too many windows open or your device is low on memory.
If your exam administrator has enabled webcam or audio verification, you will also be required to take a webcam image test to ensure that your lighting and positioning are adequate before beginning the exam. Errors are frequently caused by factors such as glare from glasses or poor lighting. While these steps may seem inconvenient, they are essential for ensuring the security and fairness of the testing process.
How long is too long when it comes to getting into your exam? If you find it’s taking an excessive amount of time to get through these preliminary steps, that's a clear sign something might be amiss. You're not alone in this. Proctorio’s Support team is available to assist you 24/7/365 via live chat, email, or even a phone call. Your time and efforts are valuable, and our goal is to ensure a smooth and stress-free exam experience.
Remain calm and confident knowing you have the knowledge and support you need to succeed.
